In Iraq, a range of human rights issues persist. These include forced disappearances, impeded or forced returns, property destructions of internally displaced persons (IDPs), lack of due process and fair trial standards, as well as sexual violence.
The protection of human rights serves as a crucial guarantee against conflict and violence. In addition, when human rights abuses do occur, it is important that citizens trust in the ability of the judiciary to hold fair trials and bring criminals to account. This prevents circles of violence, where grievances regarding old abuses resurface and produce further rounds of violence in the present. The following section will be a space for human-rights organisations and defenders to share their reports, articles and studies and thus keep Iraqi citizens informed of the most recent discussions within the field of human rights.
