Iraqi media is no stranger to the spreading of disinformation narratives. Since 2005, Iraq’s media has been a battleground between opposing factions and interests, fuelled by the elite capture of news media outlets.
Declining trust in the political system and government has also allowed narratives to spread more quickly across social media, the preferred platform as citizens turn away from partisan legacy media outlets such as television, newspapers and radio. In Iraq's conflict-driven political arena, peripheral actors seek to challenge centres of power via control and manipulation of the public sphere.
Through articles, policy papers, videos, and caricatures, this section will share best practices for Iraqi citizens to identify and combat disinformation.
